We are not always all about business at Venice Bakery. Sometimes we’d like to have a little fun. And of course we want to share it with you. Especially when we just helped to create the ‘’largest pizza in the world”.
It happened last weekend in Fontana, California. Dozens of volunteers in yellow shirts and white hats were working on an enormous scaffolding helping to stretch, top and bake 1.3 miles of dough. Everybody who is somebody in the pizza world was present (at least it seemed that way at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana). One goal in front of them: Break the Guinness World Record for the Longest Pizza!
Fash Asvadi, the founder of pizzaovens.com, secured sponsors (yes, Venice Bakery among them) to donate truckloads of cheese, sauce and flour. The goal: Break the current record from Naples, Italy. That pizza measured 6,082 feet and 3.4 inches long, or about 1.15 miles.
It took almost 24 hours, but by 4 p.m. on Sunday evening, a crowd of hundreds had gathered at the finish line to watch the mega-oven roll down the final stretch. Rumor of the Longest Pizza in the World had been heard on the radio and seen on various social media channels. There were families who had driven out from as far as Oceanside and Las Vegas to see it. And we at Venice Bakery are proud to say that we were part of the day that will shine on in pizza eternity.
